I believe we need to provide greater help and support for older and disabled people to remain independent at home while facilitating them to play an increasingly active role in our community. We must also support those who care for them. Addressing issues affecting older and disabled people and promote opportunities for greater participation in our society is a core principle of mine. This is not only an issue to be addressed by national government but by local government as well.
Cuts to Grants Hit Elderly and Disabled
Cuts and tax changes are hammering the elderly and disabled people who are already struggling to keep the wolf from the door and to stay at home away from residential care.
These cuts are short sighted as it is more cost effective for a Government for people to stay in their own homes than to have to go into residential care. Also, in forcing people to leave their homes for residential care shows the uncaring nature of this Government and its short-sightedness.
